Child Cancer

Extremely valuable and much appreciated

Lorraine Downes has been an extremely valuable and much appreciated supporter of the Child Cancer Foundation over the past four years.

Her association with the Foundation began in spectacular fashion in 2006 when she selected CCF as her chosen charity as a competitor on TVNZ’s Dancing with the Stars. Lorraine won the competition with partner Aaron Gilmore, which enabled her to raise an amazing $111,961.63. During filming of the show, Lorraine and Aaron visited the Children’s Cancer Ward at Wellington Hospital and the Wellington CCF Family Centre.

Lorraine’s support of CCF continued in 2009 when she volunteered her time and considerable profile to promote the Foundation’s Annual Appeal on TVNZ’s Good Morning show, as well as carrying out radio commitments. At a grass roots she collected in downtown Auckland in the morning of Auckland’s collection day, before driving to Tauranga, stopping at each town along the way to continue collecting and to meet children with cancer along the way.

This year, in 2010, Lorraine made another appearance on Good Morning to promote Appeal Week. She also agreed to publically reveal in a double page spread in Woman’s Day her own close family link to childhood cancer as the aunt of Appeal Week poster child Claudia Little.

Throughout her association with CCF, Lorraine has acted professionally and compassionately. The Child Cancer Foundation has been enormously grateful for her support.
